Yvonne La Mont, Family Service Counselor, serves families with Fuiten Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove and Vernonia and Forest Grove Memorial Chapel.

Yvonne and her four brothers grew up in Houston, Texas, where she was the head of a commercial remodeling company for several years. Her career change was brought about by the death of her father in 1989 and first-hand realization of the emotional challenges one is faced with upon the death of a family member.

It was 16 years ago that Yvonne first started her work as a family service counselor. At that time she was employed by the Earthman Funeral Home on Houston, Texas. Over the years she took extensive training in the field and was soon recognized as a leader in the field and was asked to be a guest speaker at several conventions and schools to provide training classes on aftercare procedures.

The needs of each family differ, therefore the duties of a family counselor will change from family to family. Her first responsibility is to be certain that each family served by the funeral home is aware of all of the services offered by the funeral home. As needed, she is able to provide a wealth of information from the library of printed materials she freely provides to each family. This may include information on various benefits programs such as veterans and social security to the more complex subject of getting started with life after a loss. Her goal is to remain in contact with each family as long as needed.

While Yvonne has started several support groups, she is especially proud of one new program she helps coordinate for two local widows who had the desire to start a support group. It is called “Keep on Trucking” This is a no host breakfast held on the second Tuesday of each month at Elmer’s in Hillsboro at 9:30am. The breakfast is attended by widows and widowers of our local area. Yvonne states that “She is constantly amazed at the amount of strength people receive by being able to share and exchange thoughts with others.” Any widow or widower is welcome.

She is also skilled in the area of pre-planning. Yvonne can help you pre-plan the type of service you desire, be it a traditional funeral to any alternative type of disposition. She is also able to assist families in pre-funding services, which allows the family to secure the cost at today’s prices, thereby eliminating the worry about inflation.

Yvonne and her husband, Roy, live on a floating home on the Multnomah Channel of the Columbia River. Roy is employed by a Metro Area Cemetery where he has been the Grounds Superintendent for 19 years. Their favorite entertainment is spending time with their five grandchildren and sailing their 27’ Cascade sail boat.

Feel free to stop by and welcome her!
